Chiropractic can’t fix everything, but it can help you heal after surgery.
As a chiropractor with years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of helping many people avoid surgery through conservative care. But I’ve also had honest conversations with patients when chiropractic wasn’t enough – especially in cases involving severe herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or vertebral joint deterioration. The truth is: chiropractic care isn’t a magic bullet. And I’ll never pretend it is.

Sometimes surgery is absolutely necessary. I’ve had several patients who ended up needing spinal surgery because the damage was too advanced or the pain too debilitating to continue without surgical intervention. And I fully supported their decision. In fact, in a few cases, I even encouraged them to explore surgical options after conservative treatment failed to bring relief.
But here’s the part that often gets overlooked: the story doesn’t end with surgery.
Life After Surgery: The Role of Chiropractic Care

Many of the spinal surgeons my patients have worked with actually recommend chiropractic care after the surgical site has healed. Why? Because once the acute surgical issue is resolved, there are still muscles, joints, and nerve patterns that need to be addressed. Post-surgical compensation patterns, scar tissue buildup, and reduced mobility in other areas of the spine often lead to stiffness, discomfort, and poor posture down the line.
That’s where our team comes in.
We don’t adjust or manipulate the surgical site itself. Instead, we focus on maintaining mobility, reducing stress on adjacent areas, and helping the patient get back to doing the things they love – safely and confidently. Regular chiropractic adjustments can support proper biomechanics, decrease inflammation in the supporting structures, and promote long-term spinal health.
Teamwork Over Ego
I’ve always believed that healthcare works best when it’s collaborative. I’m not here to compete with surgeons. I’m here to complement them. When a patient’s surgeon gives the green light for chiropractic care post-op, we work as a team to keep that patient feeling their best and to hopefully avoid future problems down the road.
In fact, some of my most grateful patients are the ones who came back to me after surgery. They didn’t see chiropractic as a last-ditch effort – they saw it as part of their ongoing recovery and maintenance plan.
